Hyundai launches special edition Getz

Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors Sdn. Bhd. (HSDM) has launched a Special Edition Hyundai Getz SE to commemorate the 20,000 units of Getz sold since 2005 in Malaysia.

The Getz SE is special in many ways. For starters, only 300 will be available, and each car will bear a serialised plate number beginning with 001 for the first Getz SE.

As for looks, the Getz SE has undergone a facelift to keep to a sportier feel, it still retains its good looks, but revamped to be even better looking - in fact, is more in line with the current European design.


A new fully integrated frontal treatment features a redesigned unified nature of the grille and bumper, while clear, wraparound headlamps with standard fog lamps gives it a cleaner and more sportive image. The Getz SE also comes with a new icing white colour.

From the side view, the strong shoulder line contour unifies the whole structure, while a dominant black waist moulding add to the feeling of strength and stability. The side mirrors also have integrated stylish L.E.D indicator that is more practical and provides better visibility for other vehicles on the road. New alloy wheels including a highly sporting 15-inch alloy rim design, further emphasizes the dynamic styling, and serves to highlight the well-balanced overall proportions. The new Dunlop D01 tyres are also installed on the new Getz SE. The Dunlop D01 has the double V grove pattern, which performs very well on wet roads, making the car perfect for the Malaysian tropical climate.

To complement the sporty looks, the interior seats and steering wheel now comes in leather.

Under its hood, the Hyundai Getz SE still retains the original and powerful 1.4 DOHC engine. The sporty 1.4 DOHC engine delivers 71.3kW at 6000 rpm with 125.5 Nm torque at 3200 rpm.

The Getz is available in 4-speed automatic and 5-speed manual, and comes with a driver's SRS airbag in the front and seatbelts all readily for its passenger safety. Apart from that, the Getz has a Multi Information Display that tells the driver the outside temperature, average fuel consumption and also distance to empty gauge.

In terms of seating flexibility, it comes with flat folding rear seats with 60/40 capacity and a dual height driver seat. The Space Wizard with three-position rear seat folding capability and 5-way folding options offer exceptional flexibility and comfort. The driver's seat also has a folding armrest, which gives the driver extra comfort while driving. And with the rear seats folded double, there is an impressive 977 litres of useable luggage space. Altogether, these features ensure that Getz still remains in the forefront of this class.

Open AP - why are we scaring the investors away?

Cartrade ABT has just launched Volkswagen two latest cars, the Golf Mk6 and the Scirocco, both models have yet to be launched by VW care taker here, Volkswagen Group Malaysia (VGM).

Now, you can say that Cartrade ABT is being proactive by bringing in the car ahead of the brand's principle so that Malaysians can get the car early.

But then, when we want the car companies to come in and invest, allowing AP holders to do this will definitely make investors turn around and run away.

This is something which the government should look into. While we want to promote local business to succeed, we must also plan ahead.

I say the government should control the open AP holders from bringing in new cars ahead of the principal.

These car companies have invested millions here, and giving a lot of job opportunities to Malaysians. The least that we can do is protect their interest.

Perhaps by doing so, these investors might soften up a bit and decide to lower the bloated price tags on their cars (even after tax).

The McLaren F1 was the greatest road car of all time - just look what happened when Hammond and the Stig raced one against the Bugatti Veyron. Now its successor, the MP4-12C, has arrived. You should be excited.

Let's start with some numbers. The mid-engined 12C is powered by an all-new 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 with a dry sump and flat-plane crank. It produces 600bhp and 443lb ft of torque, 80 per cent of which is available from less than 2,000rpm. It will weigh just under 1,400kg.

Though McLaren hasn't released any performance figures, a 0-60mph time near three seconds and a top speed in excess of 200mph would seem highly likely. So, yeah, it's going to be fast. Not quite as insanely quick as the original F1, but still... fast.

The 12C is underpinned by a revolutionary new one-piece carbon fibre tub, a brand new piece of technology that weighs in at just 81kg. There's more clever tech on board, too - an all-new seven-speed dual clutch transmission (called SSG) and innovative suspension that does without a conventional anti-roll bar, featuring instead hydraulically inter-connected dampers. Oh, and - just like the original F1 - there's a rear air brake.

What do you think of the looks? True, it's much more... slow-burning than most 600bhp mid-engined sports cars, but McLaren MD Anthony Sheriff says that was exactly the point.

"The structure, layout and packaging were all defined before we put pen to paper," says Sheriff. "We started with an aerodynamic proportions model to see if we could meet the targets we'd set, and created a shape around that."

Designer Frank Stephenson - who joined McLaren in 2008 after a long stint at BMW and a shorter one at Ferrari, Fiat and Alfa Romeo, agrees.

"There's an efficiency to the design of the 12C," says Stephenson. "The shape is not overpowered by styling tricks or elements that don't need to be there. With McLaren it's more technological - there's no styling for styling's sake."

McLaren plans to build around 1000 12Cs each year, with prices expected to start at just under £150,000 - right on Ferrari 458 money. That's a virtual bargain compared to the original F1, which weighed it at over half a million quid even back in 1992.

So... thoughts, please. A worthy successor to the McLaren F1?

Wajah perkasa New D-Max

BUDAYA memilih trak pikap sebagai kenderaan kegunaan harian bukanlah perkara baru di negara ini.

Kini, ramai gemar memandu trak berikutan keadaan fizikalnya besar selain tahan lasak.


Minat rakyat tempatan itu mendorong Isuzu Malaysia Sdn Bhd memperkenalkan model terbaru, Isuzu New D-Max 3.0L versi Hi-Def.

Ia hanya ditawarkan 200 unit tahun lalu dan habis dijual.

New D-Max masih menggunakan enjin Ddi iTEQ empat silinder turbo intercooler dengan Super Commonrail yang menghasilkan 134 hp pada 3,400rpm manakala tork pula pada 294Nm antara 1,400 hingga 3,000rpm.

Enjin berkenaan menawarkan penjimatan maksimum dan tidak hairanlah setangki penuh diesel mampu membawa penulis dari ibu kota ke Haadyai.

Bagaimanapun, pihak Isuzu yang memberi unit pandu uji pada hari bekerja menyukarkan penulis menguji tahap penggunaan bahan api yang diisi penuh di dalam tangki.

Sepanjang empat hari memandu uji di sekitar ibu kota seperti menempuh kesesakan jalan raya ketika berulang- alik dari rumah ke pejabat dalam jarak 40 kilometer sehari, penulis mendapati tolok bahan apinya hampir tidak bergerak. Menakjubkan!

Perkara ini tidak mustahil kerana D-Max terbaru ini dibekalkan enjin terbaru dikenali High Frequency Induction Hardening (HFIH) yang menawarkan mampatan lebih baik pada kebuk pembakaran serta omboh aloi ringan.

Selain itu, model ini dipadankan dengan rantai pemasa yang lebih lasak berbanding tali pemasa yang perlu ditukar setiap 80,000 kilometer.

Dari segi gaya luaran, D-Max terbaru masih lampu hadapan projektor Ellipsoid dalam perumah bertingkat, tetapi gril hadapan diberikan rupa baru lebih bergaya.

Bahagian hadapan terserlah wajah perkasa D-Max dan jentera pacuan empat roda ini tidak memerlukan sebarang aksesori tambahan melampau.

Bahagian sisi turut dipertingkatkan apabila pemijak sisi dilebarkan bagi memudahkan penumpang terutama kanak-kanak memasuki ruang kabin.

Ruang belakang hanya dipadankan dengan 'Roll Bar' tidak seperti model Hi-Def yang ditawarkan dengan D-Box.

Bagaimanapun, Roll Bar krom kalis calar sudah memadai bagi New D-Max kelihatan tegap dan maskulin.

Kabin juga dipertingkatkan dengan salutan kulit kemas seperti sebuah kereta sedan.

Sistem audio 'In-Car DVD' bukan sahaja menawarkan sistem audio dan gambar jelas, tetapi disatukan dengan sistem navigasi terbina.

Sistem hiburan berkenaan kelihatan menarik bersama kokpit kemasan titanium yang bukan sahaja lebih menarik, malah kemas dan cantik.

Walaupun New D-Max transmisi automatik ini dipandu secara agresif di kawasan bandar, ia menawarkan keselesaan walaupun masih kekal konsep pikap.

Penumpang belakang masih terasa terlompat-lompat kerana spring belakang direka untuk muatan, bukan penumpang.

Bagaimanapun, dengan sistem hiburan terbaik, kerusi balutan kulit dan penjimatan minyak terunggul dalam kategori pikap menjadikan New D-Max tetap pilihan berbaloi.

Berharga RM84,638.40 (tanpa insurans), New D-Max adalah jentera pikap terbaik daripada Isuzu.

Last week we have some time and an opportunity to test drive both car at Honda Showroom at Wisma Mofaz with Ms Teresa Cheng. Why we test drive both car? Because both car model offered by Honda have same engine fitted into the engine bay which is the i-vtec 16valve SOHC 4 cilinder and we want to feel the differences between both car due to its shape design which is Honda City is a sedan car and the Honda Jazz is a mini MPV.


ALL NEW HONDA CITY VS ALL NEW HONDA JAZZ - TEST DRIVE REVIEW & SPECIFICATION

Driving an i-vtec engine car is quite fun due to its fast response and good pick up. Anyway, its a 1.5 litre engine that is more than enough to bring the New City with 1140kg of weight and New Jazz with 1100kg of weight. You won’t feel much different pressing the fuel paddle for both car as the engine produce same output of 120PS at 6600RPM and 145Nm at 4800RPM.

What makes the i-Vtec engine so special is it provide very smooth acceleration, very quiet engine sound and very responsive performance. What i like the most is the engine RPM at 100km/h which is only 2000 RPM! For a 1.5 litre engine, this is the best engine i have ever experienced. It can cruise 100km/h only with 2000 RPM while other car including Toyota Vios is more than 3000RPM.

Both Honda Jazz and Honda City offers paddle shifter on the back of the steering. Just switch to “S” gear at the gear knob and you ar free to operate the paddle shifter to change the gear manually and quickly. Pulling the left paddle will drop your gear and accelerate faster for you to overtake and pulling the right paddle will step up your gear. But if you use the paddle shifter during “D” mode, the paddle shifter will disengange automatically after a few seconds operated. But be carefull when using the paddle shifter! You must really knows how it works. If not the engine will over run to red line RPM. You must always look at the RPM gauge.

Both All New City and Jazz really offers the same spec with same engine, same water resistance seat fabric, radio player system and fuel consumption. The differences is the exterior design, space and some of the interior finishing on the meter panel. getting into Honda Jazz, you will feel very spacious. With the extended windscreen glass, bigger space on the dashboard, wide view on the front, triangle glass gives better view on the front side, the Jazz offers more space in terms of interior cabin. While the meter panel on the dashboard is better than the new City. The design is sportier.

The All New City Provides a better luggage space which is 506 litre. Driving the new city is more stable than the jazz due to it is a sedan car. But the jazz will offer a lighter feeling while driving. Good news is the new City will be available in very nice taffeta white colour starting January 2010.

There are not many differences between both model. But if you prefer a sedan car, then take the City with lower price yet delivering same features as the Honda Jazz. If you prefer a mini MPV design which is more sporty, you can go for the Honda Jazz. For your information, the Honda Jazz is a CBU model that is fully imported from Japan. That is why the price is more expensive but the specification is slightly same with the CKD Honda City.

Lexus To Introduce LF-Ch Compact Hybrid To North American Market In December

The new LF-Ch concept car includes premium features, new drivetrain with low emissions, and fuel economy in a sporty five-door design

Lexus is planing to display its LF-Ch Compact Hybrid concept car for the first time in North America at the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show in December.

The company's concept hybrid vehicle includes premium features, new drivetrain with low emissions, and fuel economy in a sporty five-door design.

Mark Templin, vice president and general manager of Lexus division group, said: "Lexus has been leading the luxury hybrid market ever since we came out with the RX 400h in 2005. To continue raising the hybrid benchmark, we need to continue exploring hybrid technology in different segments. The LF-Ch concept gives us the opportunity to gauge consumer reaction and help us determine whether or not this would be viable for production."

The LF-Ch concept was designed by Calty Design Research, Toyota’s North America-based research and design center located in Newport Beach, California. It would allow the brand to study the needs of young urbanites and consumer values in a compact luxury vehicle.

Kevin Hunter, president of Calty, said: "The LF-Ch concept is the next evolution of the compact luxury vehicle. We were able to create a beautifully designed hybrid with a deep sense of mystery and intrigue."

Nissan 370Z

Kurang setahun sejak pengenalannya kepada dunia, Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn. Bhd. kini memperkenalkan model kebanggaan Nissan, Nissan 370Z ke pasaran tempatan.



PENGARAH Eksekutif Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn. Bhd. (ETCM), Datuk Dr. Ang Bon Bang menyimpan satu rasa sentimental yang cukup tinggi terhadap model sport keluaran Nissan ini. Sebabnya, pada tahun 1960, Ang yang ketika itu seorang jurujual kenderaan Nissan berjaya menjual model sport 240Z yang pertama.

Sejak itu, memiliki jentera berkuasa tinggi siri Z menjadi impian semua peminat tegarnya. Biarpun tiada satu pun model daripada variannya dibawa masuk bermula dari tahun 1970 hingga 2003, popularitinya tidak pernah luntur.

Memahami masih wujud keghairahan terhadap model Z, pihak ETCM mengambil keputusan untuk kembali membawa masuk jentera tersebut pada 2004. Menjadi antara model pilihan para drifter, dalam tempoh lima tahun (sehingga 2009), sebanyak 11 unit 350Z Coupe telah terjual.

Saya tidak berkesempatan untuk memandu uji 350Z Coupe. Lebih membuatkan saya berasa sayu ialah apabila mendapat tahu dua orang rakan telah dijemput ke Jepun untuk memandu uji model terbarunya, 370Z. Namun, perasaan itu sedikit terubat apabila pada majlis pelancaran 370Z dan Nissan Murano baru-baru ini, pihak ETCM memberitahu bahawa mereka ada menyediakan kedua-dua unit tersebut untuk dipandu uji.

Untuk makluman, 370Z dikenali sebagai Fairlady Z di Jepun. Tidak dapat dinafikan bahawa generasi keenam itu sememangnya antara model yang menjadi indikator kepada kemajuan teknologi automotif Nissan.


RUANG kokpit 370Z kemas dengan deretan meter yang berfungsi bagi memberi panduan kepada pemandu.

Menjangkau usia 40 tahun, model Z sememangnya sudah menjadi ikon para peminat jentera berkuasa tinggi di seluruh dunia. Ini terbukti apabila 1.7 juta unit telah terjual sejak generasi pertamanya, model S30 membuat debut pada tahun 1969.

Justeru, penampilan Nissan 370Z serba baru itu meneruskan falsafah reka bentuk, prestasi, inovasi teknikal dan pengendalian yang optimum. Model itu juga dikatakan dibina daripada ciri-ciri terbaik yang diambil daripada generasi pertama dan terakhir model Z.




REKA bentuk luaran jentera ini tidak menerima perubahan yang terlalu ketara.

PEMOTORAN - Perubahan baru Triton

TRITON yang telah menerima banyak pengiktirafan kini sudah berwajah baru.


PADA bulan lalu, pasaran automotif tempatan dihidangkan dengan dua model facelift iaitu Lancer dan Grandis daripada pihak Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia. Trak pikap edaran syarikat itu kini telah mengalami proses serupa.

Setelah memperoleh pelbagai anugerah pemotoran dalam dan luar negara, Mitsubishi Triton yang merupakan salah satu daripada jenama trak pikap paling popular dalam negara sudah bersedia untuk bertemu peminatnya menerusi pakej lebih menarik.

Trak pikap itu telah memenangi anugerah Pick-up of the Year daripada Autocar ASEAN sejak tahun 2006 menerusi model L200 (Mitsubishi Storm).

Pada tahun 2007 dan 2008, anugerah itu sekali lagi diberikan melalui model Triton 2.5 serta Triton Lite. Sebagai tambahan , model premium Triton 3.2 dinamakan sebagai Pick-up of the Year oleh pihak NST-Maybank Car of the Year Awards pada tahun lalu.

Sejak dilancarkan pada tahun 2006, Triton nyata mencatat jualan memberangsangkan dan memberi impak signifikan dalam segmen tersebut.

Pengukuhan model Triton dalam kalangan pengguna kian jelas dengan pengenalan dua lagi variannya iaitu Triton 3.2 dan Triton Lite pada tahun 2008. Kedua-dua model itu telah menyumbang kepada peningkatan jualan sebanyak 45.9 peratus, berbanding angka yang dicatatkan sepanjang tahun 2007.

Bagi pasaran Malaysia, Triton meliputi varian Triton 3.2 automatik, Triton 2.5 liter 4x4 bertransmisi automatik dan manual, serta Triton Lite 2.5 liter 4x2 (manual sahaja).

"Jadi, model facelift Triton ini membuatkan jentera yang sudah dikira terbaik semakin bagus, bergaya dan lebih versatil. Dari aspek keluasan, ruang kabin Triton sudah pun menjadi peneraju dalam kelasnya.

"Kini, ciri-ciri itu ditambah dengan kargo yang lebih dalam dan panjang bagi meningkatkan kapasiti barang yang ingin dibawa," kata Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia, Keizo Ono.

Penampilan bahagian hadapan trak pikap itu diserlahkan menerusi penggunaan bampar yang diprofil semula, selain kemasan bahagian bawahnya dan gril radiator berbentuk sarang lebah.

Ono sendiri mengakui bahawa dia teruja apabila melihat varian Triton 3.2 dilengkapi dengan rim aloi bersaiz 17 inci.

Perubahan itu hanya melibatkan peningkatan harga yang minimum. Bagi model Triton Lite, harganya bermula daripada RM61,484. Sementara Triton 2.5 (transmisi manual) dijual pada harga RM87,051 dan RM91,921 bagi Triton transmisi automatik. Triton 3.2 pula berharga RM99,143 seunit. Perlu diingatkan bahawa harga untuk model Triton 2.5 terhad pada tempoh pengenalan sahaja.

Diimport sepenuhnya dari Thailand, Triton hadir bersama jaminan selama tiga tahun atau perbatuan 100,000 kilometer (yang mana terdahulu).

When the Mitsubishi Evo X arrived in 2007, there was a great fanfare made about the twin-clutch gearbox. The trouble was, you could only get it on the relatively-warm-for-an-Evo FQ300, not a more powerful variant. Mitsubishi has now dropped it into the FQ330, for a £3,500 premium over the manual.

Not a cheap upgrade (a dual clutch gearbox on a VW Golf GTI costs £1,305) but it suits this Evo more than the manual. It flatters you but it's more than that - it's the way the technological feel of the paddles matches the techiness of the whole car with all its trick diffs.

The three modes you can select are Normal, Sport and Super Sport. The harder you drive, the further up the sport ladder you'll want it, but for average road use you'd leave it in normal where shifts are seamless and plenty quick. You're never in limbo while the system hunts for a gear.

You use the manual shift and the paddles more than the auto mode (this is an Evo), but automatic is still decent to slowly trundle in traffic.

The waiting has been worth it. But don't wait for the SST to graduate to the loony FQ400 - it's too powerful. 329bhp will have to do.

KENDERAAN Sport Utiliti (SUV) Lexus RX350 atau Harrier di negara ini tidak perlu diperkenalkan.

Sambutan hangat pembeli menyebabkan pemegang permit import (AP) aktif membawa masuk model berkenaan di pasaran.


Bagaimanapun, ramai antara pengguna tertipu dengan model berkenaan apabila pemilik menukarkan logo Toyota kepada jenama Lexus yang lebih eksklusif.

Baru-baru ini, Lexus Malaysia memperkenalkan model SUV Lexus RX350 tulen yang mendapat jaminan sepenuhnya daripada pengeluar kenderaan mewah itu.

Peluang memandu uji jentera terbaru itu merungkai tanda tanya mengapa ramai pemilik Toyota Harrier menukar nama jentera mereka kepada Lexus.

Model terbaru ini diberi suntikan berbeza termasuk kerangka lebih lebar berbanding model sama sebelumnya.

Malah, RX350 menerima suntikan pelbagai teknologi terkini yang membolehkannya bersaing bersama jenama pengeluar kenderaan lain dari Eropah.

Terkini, teknologi Smart Entry and Start System benar-benar memberi kelainan terhadap mana-mana SUV di negara ini.

Penulis hanya perlu menyentuh pemegang pintu dan RX350 juga boleh dihidupkan dengan menekan butang Engine Start/Stop tanpa mengeluarkan anak kunci dari dalam poket.

Terdapat sensor khas yang mengesan pemilik anak kunci, seterusnya membenarkan penggera dimatikan dan enjin boleh dihidupkan sebelum dipandu.

Itulah antara teknologi terkini RX350 yang dibawa Lexus Malaysia, sebuah satu syarikat di bawah UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd.

Ruang hadapan dihiasi dengan gril krom bergaris halus bersama perumah lampu hadapan meruncing diisi bersama projektor HID AFS.

Lampu AFS RX350 membolehkan cahaya yang dipancarkan membelok mengikut putaran stereng pemandu.

Susuk tubuh RX350 yang besar dengan alur lembut menampakkan personaliti maskulin selain gaya mewah terserlah.

Lampu belakang kristal jernih menjadi 'trademark' semula jadi Lexus RM350.

Ruang dalaman kaya dengan elemen mewah sebaik sahaja punggung dilabuhkan ke kerusi empuk pemandu.

Paparan meter dan ruang kokpit sangat kemas, butang kawalan audio dan penghawa dingin disusun memanjang memudahkan pemandu mencapai punat diperlukan.

Nadi yang dibekalkan pada RX350 masih menyamai model terdahulu iaitu 3.5L enam silinder (V6) 24 Injap DOHC Dual VVT-i.

Bagaimanapun, penggunaan sistem transmisi Super ECT dengan AI Shift Automatic enam kelajuan menjadikannya lebih faham gaya pemanduan pemandu.

Walaupun terpaksa memerah tenaga membawa badan agak besar, enjin RX350 tetap lancar dan senyap sehingga penulis merasai seperti memandu sebuah sedan mewah.

Jika memandu secara santai, simbol ECO akan keluar di papan meter menandakan enjin berfungsi dengan optimum.

Namun, jika memerlukan kuasa serta-merta, tekan saja pedal minyaknya dan RX350 akan meluncur seperti peluru.

RX350 mampu memecut sehingga 200 km/j manakala lapan saat diambil untuk bergerak dari pegun sehingga ke kelajuan 100 km/j.

Teknologi terbaik Toyota menjadikan Lexus RX350 memiliki pelbagai personaliti sama ada sebagai kenderaan mewah santai atau lasak dan gagah.

Sistem suspensi daripada pegas MacPherson (depan) dan Double Wishbone (belakang) banyak membantu kestabilan RX350 dan keselesaan penumpang.

Sistem audio premium dari Lexus menawarkan pemain cakera padat dengan penukar bersama sembilan pembesar suara berkualiti tinggi.

Bagaimanapun, ketiadaan sistem GPS mengurangkan kelebihan yang ada model ini berbanding pesaing lain.

Mengimbangi kuasa yang ada pada RX350, jentera gagah ini dibekalkan dengan 10 beg udara, ABS, BA, VSC, TRC dan EBD.

Berharga RM377,000 (tanpa insuran), RX350 adalah sebuah jentera SUV mewah terbaik pernah dikeluarkan Lexus.

Cream of the crop Golf Gti and Scirocco

CARTRADE-ABT has jumped the gun and launched the new Golf Mk6 and the Scirocco ahead of Volkswagen Group Malaysia (VGM).

The event was held at Cartrade-ABT showroon along Jalan Bangsar.

Catrade-ABT, a subsidiary of Catrade Group, has sold a total of 150 ABT-tuned cars and kits in Malaysia.

"ABT enjoys a world-class reputation as a successful tuning brand for Audi and Volkswagen, and delivers the highest values in customer satisfaction."

The ABT VSR package for the Golf GTI Mk6 propels the car from 210bhp to 260bhp, with 360Nm of torque at 2,600-5,100rpm.

The ABT VSR package for the sleek Scirocco churns out 240bhp, with 340Nm at 2,400-4,800rpm.

"ABT is the pitstop for anyone wanting to harness their Audi and Volkswagen' full potential," said Catrade-ABT's director of sales, Helmi Ilyas.

Also present during the ceremony was Datuk Ilyas Mohamed, Executive Chairman of Cartrade Group.

Prices for both cars are still being studied, but according to Cartrade, the Golf should be around RM250,000 while the Scirocco is around RM280,000.
